Common questions
Does Google Maps let you export a saved list to GPX or KML?
Not directly. Google Takeout can export saved places, but only as a CSV of names and addresses, no coordinates. MapsLinkQuest reads the coordinates straight out of the shared list instead.
What's the difference between GPX and KML?
GPX is built for GPS devices and apps like Garmin, Gaia GPS, and OnX. KML is built for Google Earth and general map visualization. MapsLinkQuest exports either format from the same list.
Do I need a Google account or to own the list to convert it?
No. Any public share link works, including lists someone else shared with you.
How do I export a Google Maps list someone else shared with me?
Open the list in Google Maps, tap Share, and copy the link, then paste that link into MapsLinkQuest above. You don't need to own the list, sign into the account that created it, or ask for anything beyond the share link itself.
How many waypoints can I convert for free?
Up to 25 per list. The Trip Pack, Explorer Pass, and Lifetime tiers raise or remove that limit.
Can I convert a list with more than 200 places?
Yes. The free tier converts up to 25 waypoints per list, the Trip Pack ($4.99) raises that to 1,000 waypoints for one list, and the Explorer Pass ($19/year) removes the cap entirely, so a list of 200, 500, or more places converts in the same single pass as a small one.
Which GPS apps and devices does this work with?
Anything that reads standard GPX waypoints, Garmin devices, Gaia GPS, OnX, Cachly, Locus Map, and most others, plus Google Earth for the KML format.
I paid, but I'm back on the free 25-waypoint limit. What happened?
Paid access lives in a browser cookie, not an account, so clearing cookies, switching browsers, or using a new device disconnects it. Restore it anytime at /restore using the email you paid with.
