Organic Maps is a free, open-source offline map app for iPhone and Android. It imports GPX, so a Google Maps list takes a few steps to get there. Paste your shared list link into the converter above and export as GPX. Get the file onto your phone first, through AirDrop, the Files app, or your Downloads folder.
Import the GPX
Open Organic Maps and tap the bookmarks button, the one with the stars and dots. Choose Import Bookmarks and Tracks, then pick your GPX file. Organic Maps confirms with a Bookmarks loaded successfully message.
On iPhone, you can skip that button. Press and hold the file wherever it lands, the Files app, AirDrop, or email, and choose Import with Organic Maps. We tested this route on 2026-09-20 with the same six-place list and it worked the same as the in-app import.
On Android, Organic Maps documents the same kind of shortcut: tap or long-press the file in your file manager or Downloads and choose Open with Organic Maps. We haven't tested this route ourselves, so that's what Organic Maps' own import guide says, not our own result.
Importing more than one list
If you keep separate Google Maps lists for different trips, convert each one here and you'll end up with one GPX file per list. Organic Maps documents importing a whole folder at once: open Import Bookmarks and Tracks and pick the folder instead of a single file, and on Android it scans subfolders too. We haven't tested this with more than one MapsLinkQuest export at a time, so that's Organic Maps' documented behavior, not our own result.
What you get
We tested this on 2026-09-20 on an iPhone with a six-place list. All six places arrived as bookmarks with their names, in a new list named after the Google Maps list. The pins showed on the map right away. The list sits on the Bookmarks and Tracks screen, where you can hide it or export it later.
Here's what carries over, place by place:
- Name and pin location. Confirmed in our test, all six places, both cataloged and dropped pins.
- Notes. Confirmed. We've tested a note with line breaks and a note with quote marks in it, and both came through correctly in GPX and GeoJSON.
- Address. Not tested. MapsLinkQuest includes it in the file when Google's list has one, but we haven't confirmed how Organic Maps displays it.
If the import doesn't work
Organic Maps documents import for KML, KMZ, KMB, GPX, and GeoJSON files. MapsLinkQuest exports GPX, KML, GeoJSON, and CSV, not KMZ or KMB, so pick one of those three from the converter above. If you tapped the file and nothing happened, try the in-app route instead: open Organic Maps, tap the bookmarks button, choose Import Bookmarks and Tracks, and pick the file from there.
Before you go offline
Organic Maps draws your bookmarks on top of its own map. Download the map region for your trip while you still have signal, so the pins have a map under them.
The free tier converts up to 25 places per list. Longer lists need a paid tier. The GPX page covers the file itself, and the OsmAnd page covers another offline app built on OpenStreetMap.
