AllTrails accepts GPX uploads, so once your list is a GPX file, getting it into your account takes a few minutes. Paste your Google Maps shared list link into the converter above and export as GPX. GPX is the safe pick here. The GPX vs KML page covers the difference.
Before you start
- The free tier converts up to 25 places per list. Longer lists need a paid tier.
- AllTrails' upload guide gives 20 MB as the largest file. A list of places is a small fraction of that.
- On the website, the Upload file button only appears once you have at least one recorded activity in your account. If you don't see it, use the custom route path below.
Upload on the AllTrails website
As a custom route: go to Explore, choose Build custom route, then Upload a route. Drag in your GPX or browse to it, then confirm the upload.
As an activity: open your profile and go to Activities. Click Map, then Upload file in the bottom left. Choose your GPX, click Next, add a title, and click Upload activity.
Upload in the iPhone or Android app
Tap Saved, then Custom routes. Open the three-dot menu and choose Upload route. The GPX has to be on your phone first, so download it from the converter before you start. It lands in your Files app on iPhone or your Downloads folder on Android.
What you get after uploading
We tested this on 2026-09-20 on the AllTrails website, using the activity path (Map, then Upload file) and a GPX from this converter. AllTrails logged it as a hiking activity. Every place from the list showed up under Waypoints in the activity panel and as a flag on the map. Places with a name kept it. Pins without a name were labeled by their coordinates.
Expect zeros everywhere else. The activity shows 0.0 mi length, 0 ft elevation gain, and blank time and pace, because the file holds waypoints and no track. AllTrails also filed each point under the category Other.
The custom route path and the mobile app are untested, so if you use those, count the points against your list. The imported activity was public in our test. Click the globe icon at the top of the activity to change its privacy setting, especially if your list marks places you don't want shared.
If the points don't show up
Try the other upload path, the custom route or the activity. If the points still don't appear, the same GPX file works in apps built around waypoints. The Gaia GPS page is one option, and the GPX page covers the file itself.
